As if was performed at the 2HB Book Fair (CCA, Glasgow). This work uses hand gestures as both a mnemonic device and an illustrative component in the telling of an ongoing series of observations. The observations connect together to form a choreographed, narrative chain across the floor of the venue. Each observation presents the difficulty of verbal and non-verbal communication as an everyday predicament, an opportunity for creative misinterpretation and the means for language to evolve.
On the FRONT of the postcard is a BRONZE HEAD of a roman-looking man. On the REVERSE is a SIGNATURE I can’t decipher crossed with a kiss. There’s NO MESSAGE, just a white, empty space where a message should be. The postcard is sent from ROME, where I have no friends OR family, holidaying OR living. The postcard seems to be here to DRAW my attention to SOMETHING, rather than SOMEONE. Maybe it’s here to remind me that the people I’ve FORGOTTEN might not have forgotten me. OR, it’s here to remind me that the people I know well, sometimes want to be ANONYMOUS. EITHER way, I think twice.
